Etherscan

Etherscan is a website that lets you read public data from the Ethereum blockchain. You can search by address, transaction hash, token, domain name or block. It covers Ethereum Mainnet and the Sepolia and Hoodi test networks.

It is useful for beginners who want to check if a transfer went through. It is also used by intermediate users and developers who read smart contract data, check token approvals or track gas prices.

1. Open the website and type an address, transaction hash, token name or domain into the search bar.
2. Use the filters to narrow the search to addresses, tokens, name tags, domain names, labels or websites.
3. Open a result page to see details such as the sender, the receiver, the amount and the time.
4. Browse the menus for blocks, top tokens, NFTs, charts, the gas tracker and other tools.
5. Sign in if you want features such as private name tags or private notes on addresses and transactions.
6. Use the Etherscan API if you want to pull blockchain data into your own app.

Use it when:

• You want to check the status of an Ethereum transaction.
• You want to look up an address, token or smart contract.
• You want to see current gas prices and network activity.
• You need blockchain data for development through the API.

Not ideal if:

• You need data from other blockchains, since this site covers Ethereum networks.
• You want a wallet or a place to trade, because it only shows data and does not hold funds.
